rs_games finally :D
Ocean Above & Sky BelowRating: PG-13
Warnings: swearing, descriptions of food and eating, one kiss placed on a character while they are not awake and, thus, incapable of consenting
Word Count: 8000
Summary: Sirius, adrift and floundering at the advanced age of 23, rents out a mansion by the sea— as you do— in an effort to recapture his happiness. It works surprisingly well.
Notes: Much thanks to my team, who have been overwhelmingly kind, even when I forget to respond to them, and my beta, who puts up with much the same. This came from an idea spawned years ago and I’m very happy to have it here in front of me, finally. The title is from the song Sun Gangs, by The Veils.
Prompt: 59 - "Of all the things I wondered about on this land, I wondered the hardest about the seduction of certain geographies that feel like home — not by story or blood but merely by their forms and colors. How our perceptions are our only internal map of the world, how there are places that claim you and places that warn you away. How you can fall in love with the light.” ~ from "The Anthropology of Turquoise: Reflections on Desert, Sea, Stone, and Sky" by Ellen Meloy.
Why you want to read this: Because this is beautiful and lovely and I love it very much. Sirius growing up stories are some of my favourite, and as you all probably know by now, I have a huge soft spot for regulus and his and Sirius' relationship. I'm going to let the excerpts seduce you into reading, I think.
Excerpt 1:
Sirius considered the afternoon as he watched the guests leave. It was, he realized, the first conversation they’d had where they stood on equal footing, he utterly grown and independent. It left him feeling oddly bereft, as if he had lost something before ever realizing he’d had it. He squinted into the dying sun as this thought settled uncomfortably within him, altering his internal landscape. There were new peaks and valleys in him, he realized, looking down into himself. How inexplicable that the tectonic shifts of his own inner self had gone unnoticed for so long.
Excerpt 2:
“Alas,” he announced. “I am truly the last Black to find love. Gods, I can see it now. You and your pretty little scholar, tucked away in a cottage in the woods somewhere, reading poetry to each other and, gods, adopting cats!”
“I like cats,” Sirius said, more pleased than he could say over Regulus’ projected future.
“I know,” Regulus replied, in a tone that made it quite clear what he thought of this devastating character flaw. “You’ll have three cats and rescue woodland animals and be so stupidly, domestically happy that you’ll be impossible to be around. Trust me.”
Some of the amusement went out of him. “It’s really over with Clothilde, then?”
“Absolutely, irrevocably over,” Regulus drawled, armor once more up about him. Sirius did not particularly like his brother, but he did love him very much. The Effect of a KissRating: PG (kissing)
Summary: After his encounter with the dementor, almost losing his soul, Sirius is suffering some side-effects. He sends a message to Remus to come and help him. So, Remus does.
why this is awesome: it's a video! It's really, really lovely. The art is beautiful and the way it's cut together in the vid makes for some really evocative storytelling. I'm also impressed as all hell, that must've taken a lot of work and effort to put together!
StaticRating: PG
Warnings: a sad lack of bare bottoms on display
Image Count: 53
Summary: They have begun to read the patterns in the sound of static.
Why you want to read this: Because you'll want to read it multiple times. You'll want to start at the beginning again aspens again and again until your heart is truly and completely shattered and you feel nothing but pain and love for these boys. HELP ME. I am lost. In all seriousness though, this is amazing and beautiful and you probably all know how much I love this artist's work - it suits itself both to the whimsical and funny as well as the heartbreaking and sad. I love it and I love this and I want you all to love it as much as I do.

No Subtitles Available Rating: PG-13
Warnings: Mentions of homophobia, a tiny bit of very slight cross-dressing, implied sex
Word Count: 12,000
Summary: Potter and Black have always been arrogant and selfish as far as Remus can tell. Having their own, very successful radio show, probably hasn't changed that one bit. But when fate, or more precisely Frank Longbottom, steps in, and Remus finds himself working with Potter and Black, he might have to consider that there's more to them than he's been giving them credit for.
Why you want to read this: Have I mentioned that I love Sirius? I do. Very much. And this right here is lovely in the way Remus is looking at Sirius and seeing the different parts and slowly figuring out what kind of man he is and falling in love with him. It's beautiful. Also, there's a happy ending ;)
Now Rating: PG-13
Warnings: Attempted suicide
Word Count: 12,600
Summary: Sirius’s efforts to save Remus from himself might just involve moving in, raising Teddy, living Muggle, and taking a cooking class for couples. Meanwhile, Remus is quite sure that he isn’t gay, he’s not in love with Sirius, and he doesn’t need help with anything. AU in the sense that Sirius and Remus survive the war.
Why you want to read this: This is lovely - it's everything I love about this kind of AUs and Remus and Sirius at this stage in their life. It's beautiful and I love it. Also I cried. They're perfect.
Excerpt:
Sirius goes into the kitchen to get some champagne for a toast. When he doesn’t come back after about ten minutes, Remus follows him to find that Sirius is crying into a dish towel.
“What’s wrong?” Remus whispers.
“It’s just – it’s stupid --” Sirius says.
“What’s stupid?”
“It’s just – Prongs is going to be a grandfather.” Sirius starts crying again. And that's a wrap from me! A little late, but still. This year's fest was great. I won't be making a rectober master post this year, but I've got stuff to cross post to
roserecs when I find the time...
