I just discovered this artist on tumblr that does some really amazing things with light and shadow and colours. Especially the inktober pieces are haunting and beautiful, and I had to restrain myself from linking all of them. (There's a couple of nsfw steve/bucky arts on dorkbait's page - I didn't link them here, but just a heads up if you decide to browse.)

art recs. all steve rogers & bucky barnes. )

In other news, I signed up for [livejournal.com profile] rs_small_gifts, against my better judgment...seeing as i'm modding [livejournal.com profile] rs_collab, and I've prep work to do. OH WELL. Sign-ups for small gifts are still open until tomorrow (and claiming opens tomorrow!), so head on over and sign up? It's a low-key (and not anonymous!) holiday themed exchange fest for Remus/Sirius, which is usually absolutely wonderful. Sign-up numbers are looking a little low, so consider joining us?

Relationships: Draco Malfoy/Harry Potter
Characters: Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, Luna Lovegood, Pansy Parkinson

Summary: After the war, Draco works at a tv repair shop and Harry breaks things.

feat. sad boys in jumpers and more ABBA than is probably necessary

Why you want to read this: absolutely perfect slow-burn ♥ this entire fic felt like a warm jumper to curl into and be comfortable in. it's just the right amount of sweet and light angst - the angst stems mostly from talking about the past. draco is lovely, harry is lovely, and it's beautifully written. my only complaint is literally that there wasn't enough ABBA, seriously.

Relationships: Draco Malfoy/Harry Potter
Characters: girl!Harry - Character, Girl!Draco - Character, Girl!Ron, Hermione Granger, Anthony Goldstein
Additional Tags: Gen Fic Disguised as Drarry, Casual drinking, nobody has sex so, 8th year

Summary: When the gang ends up back at Hogwarts for their 8th year, McGonagall proposes a Yule Ball to raise morale and promote inter-house unity. Unfortunately, that means obligatory dance lessons. Even more unfortunately, Harry's a shit dancer and Draco doesn’t know the meaning of ‘follow.’

Feat. the mysteries of fiber art and the repeated butchering of Headmistress McGonagall’s name

Why you want to read this: because this is utterly and completely sweet. it's also funny and a bit off-kilter, like everybody is a stupid teenager - but they are stupid teenagers, and it's just so nice to have them be stupid teenagers after a war, you know? harry's friendship with anthony was brilliant, and harry and draco's growing friendship (and romance) progressed so naturally and sweetly that I was just left with a huge smile. feel good fic. ♥

So, I'm catching up on [livejournal.com profile] rs_games finally :D

Ocean Above & Sky Below
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: swearing, descriptions of food and eating, one kiss placed on a character while they are not awake and, thus, incapable of consenting
Word Count: 8000
Summary: Sirius, adrift and floundering at the advanced age of 23, rents out a mansion by the sea— as you do— in an effort to recapture his happiness. It works surprisingly well.
Notes: Much thanks to my team, who have been overwhelmingly kind, even when I forget to respond to them, and my beta, who puts up with much the same. This came from an idea spawned years ago and I’m very happy to have it here in front of me, finally. The title is from the song Sun Gangs, by The Veils.
Prompt: 59 - "Of all the things I wondered about on this land, I wondered the hardest about the seduction of certain geographies that feel like home — not by story or blood but merely by their forms and colors. How our perceptions are our only internal map of the world, how there are places that claim you and places that warn you away. How you can fall in love with the light.” ~ from "The Anthropology of Turquoise: Reflections on Desert, Sea, Stone, and Sky" by Ellen Meloy.
Why you want to read this: Because this is beautiful and lovely and I love it very much. Sirius growing up stories are some of my favourite, and as you all probably know by now, I have a huge soft spot for regulus and his and Sirius' relationship. I'm going to let the excerpts seduce you into reading, I think.

Excerpt 1:
Sirius considered the afternoon as he watched the guests leave. It was, he realized, the first conversation they’d had where they stood on equal footing, he utterly grown and independent. It left him feeling oddly bereft, as if he had lost something before ever realizing he’d had it. He squinted into the dying sun as this thought settled uncomfortably within him, altering his internal landscape. There were new peaks and valleys in him, he realized, looking down into himself. How inexplicable that the tectonic shifts of his own inner self had gone unnoticed for so long.

Excerpt 2:
“Alas,” he announced. “I am truly the last Black to find love. Gods, I can see it now. You and your pretty little scholar, tucked away in a cottage in the woods somewhere, reading poetry to each other and, gods, adopting cats!”

“I like cats,” Sirius said, more pleased than he could say over Regulus’ projected future.

“I know,” Regulus replied, in a tone that made it quite clear what he thought of this devastating character flaw. “You’ll have three cats and rescue woodland animals and be so stupidly, domestically happy that you’ll be impossible to be around. Trust me.”

Some of the amusement went out of him. “It’s really over with Clothilde, then?”

“Absolutely, irrevocably over,” Regulus drawled, armor once more up about him. Sirius did not particularly like his brother, but he did love him very much.

The Effect of a Kiss
Rating: PG (kissing)
Summary: After his encounter with the dementor, almost losing his soul, Sirius is suffering some side-effects. He sends a message to Remus to come and help him. So, Remus does.
why this is awesome: it's a video! It's really, really lovely. The art is beautiful and the way it's cut together in the vid makes for some really evocative storytelling. I'm also impressed as all hell, that must've taken a lot of work and effort to put together!

Static
Rating: PG
Warnings: a sad lack of bare bottoms on display
Image Count: 53
Summary: They have begun to read the patterns in the sound of static.
Why you want to read this: Because you'll want to read it multiple times. You'll want to start at the beginning again aspens again and again until your heart is truly and completely shattered and you feel nothing but pain and love for these boys. HELP ME. I am lost. In all seriousness though, this is amazing and beautiful and you probably all know how much I love this artist's work - it suits itself both to the whimsical and funny as well as the heartbreaking and sad. I love it and I love this and I want you all to love it as much as I do.

Excerpt:
image

No Subtitles Available
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: Mentions of homophobia, a tiny bit of very slight cross-dressing, implied sex
Word Count: 12,000
Summary: Potter and Black have always been arrogant and selfish as far as Remus can tell. Having their own, very successful radio show, probably hasn't changed that one bit. But when fate, or more precisely Frank Longbottom, steps in, and Remus finds himself working with Potter and Black, he might have to consider that there's more to them than he's been giving them credit for.
Why you want to read this: Have I mentioned that I love Sirius? I do. Very much. And this right here is lovely in the way Remus is looking at Sirius and seeing the different parts and slowly figuring out what kind of man he is and falling in love with him. It's beautiful. Also, there's a happy ending ;)

Now
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: Attempted suicide
Word Count: 12,600
Summary: Sirius’s efforts to save Remus from himself might just involve moving in, raising Teddy, living Muggle, and taking a cooking class for couples. Meanwhile, Remus is quite sure that he isn’t gay, he’s not in love with Sirius, and he doesn’t need help with anything. AU in the sense that Sirius and Remus survive the war.
Why you want to read this: This is lovely - it's everything I love about this kind of AUs and Remus and Sirius at this stage in their life. It's beautiful and I love it. Also I cried. They're perfect.

Excerpt:
Sirius goes into the kitchen to get some champagne for a toast. When he doesn’t come back after about ten minutes, Remus follows him to find that Sirius is crying into a dish towel.

“What’s wrong?” Remus whispers.

“It’s just – it’s stupid --” Sirius says.

“What’s stupid?”

“It’s just – Prongs is going to be a grandfather.” Sirius starts crying again.

And that's a wrap from me! A little late, but still. This year's fest was great. I won't be making a rectober master post this year, but I've got stuff to cross post to [livejournal.com profile] roserecs when I find the time...

Evenings, Mornings, Afternoons
Rating: R
Warnings: dangerously high caffeine content, drunken snogs, bad jokes
Word Count: 5600
Summary: Sirius is a librarian who doesn't read, Remus is a barista who prefers hot chocolate. At least they like each other. Eventually. Probably?
Why you want to read this: this is adorable, cute, fluffy and hilarious. i'm still smiling about this fic. everyone is awesome. please don't miss out on this fic.

Excerpt:

“What did he say? 'Sorry, sir, we're all out of carrot cake'?”

“I know you are cruel to me because you love me,” Sirius said, glowering at James, “but this is a major development.”

“The ringroad is a major development,” James said sagely. “This?” He gestured, as far as Sirius could gather, at the microwave, or possibly the kettle. “This is sad, mate.”

The Psychopomp
Rating: G
Warnings: N/A
Word Count: 60
Summary: The world collapses. You hold it in.
Why you want to read this: do you want your heart broken? do you also want a billion questions and no definite answers? no? well then. this comic is not only super pretty, it also tells in very few frames a very concise story of a Remus caught in a place he can't escape from, it seems, until Sirius comes to get him.

i'm 110% sure that remus is actually dead/dying, and sirius is fetching him into the light, so to speak. only, that makes me sad so i'm also pretending that remus is just stuck in the muggle world for some reason and that sirius went to fetch him back to the wizarding world, ok.

ANYWAY, interpret as you like.

Journey into the Land of the Rising Sun
Rating: PG
Warnings: None!
Word Count:3053
Summary: You see, sute-ki means steak, and suteki means wonderful, and this pun is going to be very helpful when one travels to Japan. A story where part of the grand plan to woo Lily Evans involves visiting Japan.
Why you want to read this: short but cute, with a few lovely, funny phrases. remus is adorable in his grumpyness (i don't blame him!). the marauders were all spot on.

Shot Through the Heart
Rating: G
Warnings: none, unless sad is a warning
Medium: Marker / PS
Summary: There wasn't a body for Remus to bury, just a flash of light he kept seeing out of the corner of his eye.
Notes: Thanks to S.
Prompt: 56 - "Clouds of black birds rose up wailing and screaming, like the thoughts of my heart." ~ Mary Renault
Why you want to look at this: this is striking. i love the contrasts and you can feel remus' pain radiate off the image.

A World Gone Mad
Warnings: wanking, frotting, brief oral, some foul language because well, they’re teenage boys.
Word Count: 18,404
Summary: The realization that he may have not so platonic feelings for Remus lead Sirius to some realizations about himself and his family, and maybe, to start healing.
Prompt: 51 - We cross our bridges when we come to them and burn them behind us, with nothing to show for our progress except a memory of the smell of smoke, and a presumption that once our eyes watered.”
~ from "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead" by Tom Stoppard
Why you want to read this: Classic hogwarts era fic, and super cute and fluffy to boot. It does have a little angst, but on the whole, it's a super sweet read. The characterisations are all spot on.

Between the Moon and the Stars
Rating: M
Warnings: Some pain/gore, related to the werewolf transformation. Underage in some countries, legal for the UK. (They are both 16)
Word Count: 3000
Summary: The summer before their sixth year, and everything changes and stays the same.
Prompt: #53 - "I want warm summer nights, to lie in a hammock, staring at the stars, telling you stories. I want to dip my toes in the water, to dangle my feet off the edge of the dock and sit leaning forward, looking at you, laughing till our stomachs hurt, that’s the summer I’ve always dreamt about." - Anonymous
Why you want to read this: this is beautiful. Short but sweet, and very vivid. Teenage boys in love ♥

We Might Fall
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: Angst
Word Count: 7137
Summary: Behind the veil, Sirius unwrites his life, one electric light at a time.
Prompt: #62 - "She said she knew she was able to fly because when she came down she always had dust on her fingers from touching the light bulbs." - from Franny and Zooey by J.D. Salinger
Why you want to read this: beautiful and heartwrenching. I cried actual, literal tears and then couldn't stop.

Stay (please)
Rating: NC-17
Warnings: One-sided love, prostitution, nudity, sex, hits of BDSM, smoking, angst, and bad handwriting. I think that's all.
Summary: He really should have known better than to fall in love with a prostitute. But as long as it feels real...
Prompt: 62 - “She said she knew she was able to fly because when she came down she always had dust on her fingers from touching the light bulbs.”
~ from "Franny and Zooey" by J.D. Salinger
Why you want to read this: comic! Sad comic! The kind of AU you love because it makes you cry but at the same time you want MORE. Yes. (Hooker!au. also known as one of my ultimate weaknesses.)

feels like insomnia (woah) (4172 words) by skylights
Fandom: Skyfall (2012), James Bond (Movies), James Bond (Craig movies)
Rating: Not Rated
Relationships: James Bond/Q
Additional Tags: Fluff, Crack, so I finally watched Skyfall and this happened, not even sorry, maybe a little, because of OOCness, Q has problems, Bond is one of them, but not really, unless Bond steals his food again, this is going nowhere
Summary: Q, on the other hand, is having significantly less trouble with coming to terms as to how he currently has a slightly drunk double-oh agent standing in his flat at arse-o’-clock in the morning. Without waiting for a reply, Q starts the vacuum up again and starts to clean the patch of carpet next to Bond’s feet. The vacuum nozzle bumps against Bond’s patent leather shoes a few times and Q grunts, a clear sign that Bond should move.

Bond moves.

(or, that fic where Q has insomnia and Bond tries to be helpful)
Why you should read this: my favourite kind of 00Q fics are luckily also the most common kind. Banter, perks, unsaid things and security in the relationship, as it is. This one is particularly wonderful because it's well written and humorous and has many great passages. I also love that this is an established relationship fic because those are relatively rare and established relationship fics are ♥

Excerpt:
“Arguing with a double-oh is like having a fight with a brick wall. Arguing with James Bond, on the other hand, when he has made his mind up about something, is like having a fight with a brick wall that fights the fuck back and fights dirty, at that.”

Keep Throwing Things and Slamming the Door (7817 words) by Traincat
Fandom: Spider-Man (Comicverse), Fantastic Four (Comicverse), Marvel 616
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Relationships: Peter Parker/Johnny Storm
Characters: Johnny Storm, Peter Parker, Jennifer Walters, Ben Grimm, Susan Storm (Fantastic Four)
Additional Tags: Alternate Universe - Canon
Summary: Waking up in a stranger's bed is not how superhero Johnny Storm planned on spending the morning after the night before.

From now on…

A) No more secret hookups with Peter Parker—he's the last man on earth Johnny'd want to share a room with, never mind a king-size bed.

B) Maintain a professional persona at all times. After all, he's a photographer for New York's #1 Superhero Bashing Rag and Johnny's perfect tabloid fodder.

C) Keep friends close but enemies closer. Easier said than done, with She-Hulk away on her honeymoon and Spider-Man avoiding him.
why you want to read this: this was brilliant. Johnny was lovely, absolutely lovely. Peter/spidey was great too, but mostly it was johnny I fell in love with here. Jen's subplot was hilarious and is an awesome comic relief when needed, though johnny's and peter's banter is great. ♥

Notes: Thank you so much to the wonderful G and B for invaluable beta reading and insightful comments! More Author’s Notes at the end of the story
Prompt: 1. “Here Comes the Sun” by the Beatles
why you want to read this: this is beautiful. It's possibly the best thing I've read from this fest so far. I just want to soak it all up and bask in it. I really don't know how to put into words how much I love it. I just. ♥

Sins of Omission (14293 words) by halfpastmorrow
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Harry Potter - Rowling
Rating: Mature
Warnings: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Relationships: Remus Lupin/Charlie Weasley
Characters: Remus Lupin, Charlie Weasley, Harry Potter
Summary: Sometimes to move forward you have to go back.

why you should read this: hey look a pairing I've never come across before, much less thought about. This was great though. Charlie is great. His friendship with Bill was just perfect and I loved the way this story was told, with two timelines and how Charlie was a very different person in both and how Remus was equally different. I was a little bit sad at the lack of Sirius and mention of Sirius, I mean hello OTP, but this worked all the same. It's a thoroughly enjoyable read and I was rather pleasantly surprised, I have to admit.

today i went grocery shopping and discovered that a buttload of christmas stuff had been filled into the shelves. this made me ridiculously happy as tumblr and the rest of the internet is all about halloween and i don't give a fuck about halloween, it being an american holiday. i got into serious christmas mode and nearly bought half the stuff, trying in vain to remember what kind of christmas stuff i already have at home. i then had to remind myself that it's still october. and then i realised that there's not a lot of october left.

Sparks from the Fox' Tail by anon ([livejournal.com profile] hd_fan_fair)
Book Title: An Appraisal of Magical Education in Europe
Rating: PG-13 (romance, not explicit)
Pairing(s: Harry/Draco
Summary: Draco is frustrated with his career as a travel writer, when a mini-tirade from Mrs. Weasley and an encounter with the portrait of an intrepid great-great-great-aunt lead him to Finland to study wandless magic. Harry is – just being contrary and following his sweet-tooth, or taking the subtle route to saving the world?
Why you should read this: Ok so I clicked this because it said Finland on the tin and i couldn't control my curiosity. it's great. most of the fic takes place in eastern finland and makes heavy use of finnish folklore in a magical context. i've read most of the poems (incantantions) referenced in the fic, but in Finnish, so it was a bit strange to see them in English. it was cool though.
my absolute favourite thing about this fic and the very reason i kept reading after the first couple of paragraph and the reason why i'm now reccing it to you, is Draco. this Draco is wonderful. sort of contradictory in the way he's both earth bound and airy, far away and right here. it's hard to explain, but from his actions and the way he spoke and his thoughts, that's what i took away from it all and i'm in love.

Start Quoting Shakespeare and We're Done by [livejournal.com profile] pyrebi
Fandom/Genre: Supernatural AU
Pairing(s): Dean/Castiel, Sam/Gabriel
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 15k
Warnings: Gleeful profanity, rampant rom-com scenarios, and a decided lack of porn.
Summary: In which Dean has the hots for a librarian named Cas, Cas may or may not have the hots for a mechanic named Dean, and Gabriel joins Sam in the peanut gallery in the hopes that he might just get to do a horizontal tango of his own.
Why you should read this: another librarian!cas and mechanic!dean fic. it's getting kind of obvious what i like, huh?
sam/gabriel are awesome in this. everyone is awesome. dean is a bit dense and a bit stupid and super 13 year old girl, sam is fed up, cas is dense and gabriel... well. XD this is a fun and light read and if you've got a spare half hour you'll burn through this quickly and will be happier for it.

White Winter Hymnal by [livejournal.com profile] newbluemoon
Pairing: Dean/Castiel
Rating:  NC-17
Word Count: 23,205
Summary:  AU. Writer!Dean walks into a café late at night on Christmas Eve, looking for inspiration for his next novel. Instead he finds librarian!Cas.

Why you want to read this: i thought this was going to be a tropefic and in a way it is. but it's very beautifully written and all kinds of adorable. the start of it is a bit so-so, but the middle bit is delicious. the third bit is pretty much just sexytimes, but i swear i've never seen porn written this way before. (i have to admit i got kinda bored by it because i'm not that into long descriptions, but ymmv.)

The Prank That Filled the Spank Bank by [livejournal.com profile] bookkbaby

Summary: It starts with a prank war and a chance meeting at the auto shop Dean works at.
Why you want to read this: this fic was the jackpot of my evening. UST, longing, confusion, misunderstandings, "helpful" and "concerned" brothers, etc. it's brilliant. it's perfectly paced, nothing seemed forced or played for gags and even the one (actually, two) things i was most worried about would be handled crappily, were done well. awesome read.

Fairy Love Songs by anon
Why i liked this: colours! i love all the colours so much omg <3 and the different colour schemes in the pictures, like there's a development from the rainbowy happy days to the red of the autumn and the later stages in their relationship and then padfoot all alone and it's cold out. idk, i just saw this and thought 'wow'.

Hidden in Plain Sight by anon
Rating: NC-17
Pairing(s): Harry/Draco
Summary: EWE. Set four years after the Battle of Hogwarts, three years after Draco was abducted by person or persons unknown. Draco is now living in a small Muggle community and working in a library with no idea the Wizarding World exists, until one day, a bloke with a mop of just-shagged black hair comes in for storytime with a little boy to get out of the rain.
Word Count: 57,000
Why you want to read this: amnesia!fic! which... i kind of don't really like, so i'm not sure why i clicked this, but i'm glad i did. draco is lovely, harry is adorable and i really love hermione and ron in this. i particularly love ron's handling of the case and how he firmly took harry off it and rightly so, and how hermione, while smart, wasn't omniscient and recognised her limits and referred to specialists etc. the mystery solving was well done too, with a plot twist i did not see coming.

Word Count: ~25,000
Why you want to read this: oh draco <3 i adored how draco's visions evolved alongside his growing (real!) attraction to harry, and the difference between the two. harry was adorable. my favourite bit? pansy's crush on hermione. brilliant. the resulting threesome is like the solution to my shipping problems when it comes to ron, pansy and hermione, i swear to god.
Why you don't want to read this: i felt that harry was a little bit ooc.

Rating: NC-17

Why you want to read this: to begin with, hermione and pansy together are super hot, but it was actually hermione's voice that really made me like this piece. it may look like just a pwp, but there's so much more to it. it's hard to explain, i guess one just has to read it.

Why you want to read this: i have a huge soft spot for draco/blaise and i have to admit they're probably my otp when it comes to draco/anyone. this was perfect. loved draco's internal monologue, the banter with blaise, draco's aristocrazy (it was a typo at first but i love it, so. even if draco isn't crazy.) and the old traditions references. absolutely lovely.

A family drama, featuring Dean as a new single father, Ben as a ninth grader with trouble coping, Sam as the voice of reason and the rock that holds Dean up and Cas as the sympathetic police officer who repeatedly busts Ben for petty crimes.

why you want to read this: first admitting that this one sat in my iBooks for months because i was skeptical at the summary. Dad!Dean fics make me wary as they so often are complete and utter crap. When I finally got around to it, I realised that not only was it well written, it was good. Dean/Cas are in the backseat here, this fic is more focused on Dean and Ben's relationship and their coping with Lisa's death. I love Lisa, I really do, and I get sad every time she's a nobody, because she obviously isn't a nobody to Dean, and it's great to have fic where that is acknowledged. Also, hilariously, Cas thinks that Dean and Sam are lovers and while that trope is a bit worn now, it was wonderfully done here and not at all over the top or dumb or played just for laughs (it is, in fact, not really funny - it's only funny because you as the reader see it coming).

I didn't drop out of rectober, I swear. I just took a break from reading quite so much - I am legitimately terrified of my flist right now so I've been burying myself in my backlog of downloaded and bookmarked fic instead, but I've not been making much progress and also some of it was just meh.

nerakrose: drawing of balfour from havemercy (are you insane?)
I was planning on catching up on podfics today, but given that I've got a shitton of stuff to do for both uni and work, I can't really listen to fic today. I am also, in the breaks, writing a fic (ace!Cas, if anyone's interested), and I can't listen to fic while doing that, either. XD

Have a bunch of old favourites instead. :)

First off, [livejournal.com profile] exmanhater is possibly my favourite reader out there, of the ones I've listened to so far. I've never had a problem understanding what she reads (although I tend not to listen to fic I've not read before, so that helps), she has a really nice, soothing voice and she does the character voices really well. <3

So, why do you want to listen to this? For the same reasons as I mentioned above. Also Dean's internal monlogue is hilarious. :D This fic also happens to be one of my favourites; it was one of the first fics I read for this fandom and it's a good feel-good guilty pleasure fic. If you're not interested in the podfic, you might be interested in just reading the fic. (And no, it's not Dean and Cas getting married.)

There's Only One Sure Thing That I Know by [livejournal.com profile] blinkiesays and read by [livejournal.com profile] exmanhater
| NC-17 | 52 MB | 1:53:25
Pairing: Dean/Cas
Author's Summary: Dean doesn't even get halfway through explaining before Bobby starts laughing. When he lets himself think about it for more than five seconds, Dean can almost see Bobby's point: he's faced down demons, witches, vampires, werewolves, ghosts, angels, and Satan himself and now he's been defeated by the God damn Midwest.

So, why do you want to listen to this? This fic is possibly my top favourite, and whenever I want to re-read it, I re-listen instead. It's the kind of slow-build, friendship first fics that I love so much, with a touch of melancholy and pain (Sam stays dead) and funny moments and fluff. This was, I think, the first fic I listened to by this reader, and it made me fall in love with the fic all over again because the quality of her voice and her reading brings out the exact things I love about the fic.

[livejournal.com profile] exmanhater has a ton of podfics in various fandoms at [livejournal.com profile] exlibrary and at the audiofic archive.

Pairing: Harry/Draco
Summary: Draco Malfoy is waiting for his real life to begin, and it appears that he’s not the only one. Coffee, charity, and the wisdom of the elderly.
So, why do you want to listen to this? This is one of my favourite fics to begin with, and also one of the first fics I read for this pairing, I think. The podfic is lovely, calmly told and as atmospheric as the fic felt the first time I read it.

nerakrose: drawing of balfour from havemercy (i think i just lost a brain cell)
Today's rec is in Finnish! I'm... Sorry. Michi linked me to this earlier today and as I've been busy and not read much today and this kinda gave me instant feels, I'm going to rec it anyway. I think tomorrow I'm going to rec some podfics because I've got some podfic catching up to do and I've got some favourites I want to share that I never recced before.

Uskalla en rakastaa (276 words) by unikorento
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Supernatural
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: John Winchester
Summary: Tänään on isänpäivä.
why you want to read this: ok it's short, but you have to know that John Winchester is my homeboy - I do NOT hate him like fandom does. I WILL defend him if you talk crap about him. And this fic I feel embodies some of my feelings about John, but also it puts in words his own feelings. In less than 300 words, well done. What really got me was the last two sentences, which is like, wow, okay, I've rarely read anything more true about John than that. You know how Sam and dean have daddy issues? Well, John has daddy issues directed towards himself. Everyone's daddy issues are just labelled "John Winchester".
why you don't want to read this: well, it's in Finnish. I don't think I've got a whole lot of people on my flist who understand Finnish to begin with.

Disclaimer: I have done other things today but read fic. It's Sunday, let me indulge.

Lady of the Evening by [livejournal.com profile] gryffindorj
Pairing Teddy/James
Rating: NC-17
Word Count: 28k
Content/Warning(s): Rimming, oh the rimming, and some bondage. Other than that not giving any other warning because that would spoil the fun.
Summary: Albus and James run a whorehouse. Sort of. They needed the money, it couldn't be helped. But it's completely on the up and up. Or at least James has no reason to think otherwise. Besides he's too busy with this Teddy thing to really care.
Why you want to read this: this fic is perfect in any way possible. Don't let the summary fool you - whatever you're thinking when you hear "run a whorehouse", stop thinking it. James was perfect, teddy was perfect, albus was perfect and everything is glorious and beautiful and I've not enjoyed a next-gen (or just teddy/James) fic like this in a very long time. I want to say it's a classic, but then not - it doesn't fall into (m)any of the tropes of the pairing and it's delightfully refreshing and new (designer!teddy! Not!a pro quidditch player!james! Gryffindor!al!), snarky and heartwarming. This fic made me fall in love with the ship all over again. ♥

About Time by [livejournal.com profile] gryffindorj
Title: About Time
Rating: NC-17
Pairing: Teddy/James II
Word Count: 9300
Warnings: Possible underage sex (James is 16), infidelity (though not between Teddy and James), and other than that no warnings just loads of smut.
Summary: Teddy and James know exactly who to blame for all of this.
Why you want to read this: this one is a classic. A shorter read, but with all the things you generally come to expect. A little bit of awkwardness, a lot of smut, a happy ending. Well worth a read.

Handle With Care (10669 words) by winterhill
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Skyfall (2012)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: James Bond/Q
Characters: James Bond, Q, Bill Tanner, Eve Moneypenny, R - Character
Additional Tags: Fluff, Hurt/Comfort, Shovel Talk, Burns, Parkour, people underestimate q, tanner is good at manipulating bond, talking problems through
Summary:It’s not exactly a secret that Bond and Q are dating. Most people in the agency give Bond the shovel talk; everyone who doesn’t gives Q the “are you sure you know what you’re doing?” talk. Q and Bond ignore them all and have a lovely time, right up until an exploding pen explodes.why you want to read this: classic 00Q and yet not; true to canon, q makes bond things, missions, explosions, the what have you. But you don't get Q and bond dancing around each other forever, you get two confident men striking up a conversation and carrying it on. It's also a light and entertaining read and not quite so full of angst as is the tendency...but not a crack fic either. ♥

Invitations (4609 words) by IWasHereMomentsAgo
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Havemercy Series - Jaida Jones & Danielle Bennett
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Relationships: Caius/Toverre
Characters: Caius Greylace, Toverre, Alcibiades
Summary: Party invitations, coffee invitations and invitations which are more demands than anything else.
why you want to read this: ok so caius and toverre are two characters who never even meet each other in the canon, but I've been brainwashed into liking the idea of them. And this fic is adorable. Caius is spot on, Alcibiades is lovely and toverre clearly has no idea what he's getting himself into.
Why you don't want to read this: it's marked complete, but feels rather like a wip. There is supposedly more in the works.

stained glass iron man by [livejournal.com profile] tripperfunster
Why I liked this: it's iron man in stained glass. enough said. it's the second one she's made, the first one is here. i love glass art and i also love fandom stuff made in untraditional ways. and seriously, a stained glass iron man? i want to make one now. (it bears saying that she made one of castiel as well, but i don't think it's as pretty as the iron mans. iron man has a lot of straight lines and sharp angles to begin with, which lends itself easily to glass art.)

Beautiful Disaster (30725 words) by Lex_Munro
Chapters: 16/16
Fandom: Dark Avengers (Comic), Cable and Deadpool
Rating: Mature
Warnings: Graphic Depictions Of Violence
Relationships: Bullseye (comics)/Daken, Cable/Deadpool
Characters: Bullseye (comics), Daken, Karla Sofen, Mac Gargan, Laura Kinney
Additional Tags: Alternate Universe - Canon, Alternate Universe - Future, Post-Apocalyptic, Original Character(s), Violence, Explicit Sexual Content, Rough Sex, Explicit Language, Slightly Dom/Sub, Mental Disorders, Dark Comedy, Humor
Summary: How Daken got a pet killer of his own, accidentally became domestic, and very accidentally became a hero who risked everything to save thousands of lives.
Why you want to read this: I've got to say straight off the bat that reading this fic was an experiment on my side. this is a ship i don't know the canon for. all i know about bullseye is from the daredevil movie and issues #10 and #11 of deadpool. this is not much (but helpful when a bit in the fic referenced a specific event from those issues and i knew what they were talking about, haha). all i know about daken is from fanart on my tumblr dash and from bits and pieces i've picked up on online (like, i know his origins). i was introduced to the ship via someone i follow on tumblr who ships them, so fanart. and frequent feels. ANYWAY, the experiment part was this: it's a ship that intrigues me and that i figured i'd try to read fic for before getting into the canon. it might just work, right? there's also the fact that I found this while looking for wade/nate fic and this showed up in the tags, so that's the only reason why i picked this one fic over any other fic.
So, this fic promised me D/s and fluff/domesticity, which are good things in my book. You get Daken as the Dom and Bullseye (Lester) as the sub (the pet). it's a dynamic that I think it's super interesting, but also because the premise of this fic is that Daken seemingly set this up - Bullseye frequently mentions Stockholm Syndrome in relation to his feelings towards Daken. The interesting thing is that Daken then falls into his own trap and is kind of hopelessly in love. good stuff.
Why you don't want to read this: this reads like a comic book that ties into a bigger event that you haven't read the books for. (at first i couldn't figure out if it was genius or just really fucking annoying.) If you want to, you can follow the links in the author notes to each chapter to catch up, read the fics parallel or afterwards or first, whatever you like. i checked out the writer's works and they suffer from circular ficitis, so basically everything is linked. the daken/bullseye relationship arc is pretty closed, as in, at the point where the fic stops, you know where they stand. plotwise, things are kind of really big and you're left with no resolution. (you'd have to find that in the other fics, i guess.) i'm not particularly bothered by the plot and as since i got what i came for relationshipwise, i'm all set with this fic as it is. cable/deadpool is so much a background/side pair that i don't know why they even exist in the tags.

Keep your shirt on by anon, [livejournal.com profile] hd_fan_fair
why I liked this: this not so anon person is one of my favourite artists in fandom and also in general; i just really love her organic (and stylised) drawing style. maybe it's the fact it's all done in pencil (or a brush that looks a lot like a pencil) ? it just feels you can reach out and touch everything. it's very grounded. ANYWAY, that wasn't actually what i wanted to say. this comic is adorable and hilarious - loved the last panel, cracked me up when i got there. it was so unexpected and i just. <3 ron's and hermione's faces were brilliant and draco was fantastic. i particularly loved his expressions towards the end, there was some lovely stuff going on there. blushing <3

there's this one wip i'm reading that updates every two weeks, and today was an update day. <3
Admissions, Interrogatories, and Other Discoveries (101606 words) by the_wordbutler
Fandom: The Avengers (2012), Marvel (Comics), Marvel (Movies), Cable and Deadpool, X-Men - All Media Types, Captain Marvel (Comics)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Relationships: Clint Barton/Phil Coulson (background), Bobby Drake/Hank McCoy (background), Jane Foster/Thor (background), Bruce Banner/Tony Stark (background), Darcy Lewis/Wade Wilson
Additional Tags: Alternate Universe, Legal Drama, motion practice universe, suffolk county legal aid, Tags Subject to Change, (never be lulled into a false sense of security by tags)
Series: Part 12 of Motion Practice
Summary: Once upon a time, in a far-away kingdom known as Suffolk County Legal Aid, there was a really awesome prince by the name of Wade Wilson. Because he was a noble and intelligent prince, Wade really thought he knew everything he wanted out of life.

And then, Wade found out he was super wrong.
Why you want to read this: does anyone remember when I recced Motion Practice? and the sequel, Permanency? This is kind of the sequel to that, but again with a different character focus. Where Motion Practise was all about Clint (and Clint/Phil) and Permanency was all about Bruce (and Bruce/Tony), I have actually no idea what Admissions is about except "confused bisexual Wade". I feel like that sums the fic up pretty well.
Anyone who's picked up a deadpool comic knows about deadpool and breaking the fourth wall, and i've read enough mediocre deadpool fanfic to be thoroughly ticked off when fanfic writers try the same and fail tragically. some things just don't translate over from comics to fanfic. not this fic. i wouldn't say there's much of breaking the fourth wall, but there are little hints, or nudges, sprinkled throughout that just make me grin. i hesitate to say that this girl is a comics expert because i dunno what she's read, but i can tell that at the very least she read cable & deadpool. i'm completely in love with all the canon references and i'm completely in love with this incarnation of wade, which is what i feel is very true for what he could've been like had he not gone into supervillainry/heroicism. i'm also very much in love with nate, who's also someone that rings very true. i love those two idiots to bits.
