this one was written in January - I rediscovered it by chance when going through my GYWO spreadsheet the other day. I noticed January had two entries for 'shetland 2' which had me puzzled because I had only written one shetland fic (besides above prompt) and that was as a yuletide treat in December last year. I checked my ao3 account and all to be sure that I wrote it in December. I then checked the first page of my gdrive (as I sometimes forget to save docs in the correct subfolders) and found nothing but a few shetland reference docs, then checked the wips folder and lo and behold there was a doc titled 'shetland 2' with a last save date of January 5 (for context this was two days before my mum passed away and I didn't write anything much for a while after that). I opened it up and found this. I have zero memory of writing it but knowing my wip titling habits I think I intended it to be either a sequel to the yuletide fic or a different fic altogether and I only gave it a sequential title for categorising purposes in my wip folder. I never wrote the full fic this scene was (probably) supposed to be a part of, but as it stands alone pretty well...

ANYWAY all that is to say: thank you past!me for writing this because it very much feels like this was magically downloaded from my brain without me knowing and even resulting in a 'yes this is EXACTLY what I wanted' type of fic and I didn't even have to write it myself! except I did, apparently, write it myself.

Relationships: Duncan Hunter/Jimmy Perez
Characters: Cassie Perez, Jimmy Perez
Additional Tags: Father-Daughter Relationship, Coming Out, (sort of)

Summary: "I saw Duncan come out of your bedroom this morning," Cassie says. "And I saw you yesterday." She turns to look at her dad. "Kissing."

"Ah," says Jimmy and sits down next to her. The sea view is dark today; steel grey meeting steel blue. "Are you upset?"

this is my s5 finale - s6 premiere bridging fic which I've been chipping away at since I saw the series premiere and only finished today (it would've been sooner, but alas, I am busy). I then promptly followed up by watching episode two and was then pleased to discover episode two hasn't jossed this fic, so yay. if episode 1 had 1 husbands moment and episode 2 had 2 husbands moments, then it stands to reason that episode 3 will have 3 husbands moments and so on and so forth, right? right???? (related, express.co.uk did a write up of episode 2 in which they repeatedly refer to Duncan as Jimmy's husband because whoever wrote this based it on...twitter reactions. they quoted a shipper. it's hysterical. the shetland discord I'm in has been having a FIELD DAY WEEK over this.)

Summary: The thing was, this half-relationship thing, this almost-relationship, was almost worse than no relationship. When crushing on someone unattainable it is a secure state of being; one can leave the feelings to run their course (or not)—the feelings can just exist, like a gently simmering broth that needs very little tending.
